The Role of the United Nations in Conflict Prevention and Resolution
The United Nations (UN) was established in 1945, and its primary objective has always been the preservation of world peace, although great stress has been laid on ending wars. The UN’s mandate, as enshrined in its Charter, underscores its commitment to preventing conflicts and resolving those that arise. Through a range of diplomatic, peacekeeping, and peacebuilding efforts, the UN has sought to address conflicts at various stages, from prevention to active resolution. In this essay, the accomplishment of the United Nations in delivering its goals in conflict prevention and management from 2003 to the present will be assessed. Through case studies involving Liberia, Sierra Leone, Syria, and South Sudan, this paper seeks to understand how the UN has been successful, threatened and innovative in managing complex conflicts. This essay postulates that although the UN has had moderate accomplishment in some branches of conflict prevention and early settlement, it has not been uniform but has been challenged by many constraints and pressured influences.

Diplomacy, peace prevention, and warning are processes that look at the political, economic, and social signs showing a conflict alert. According to United Nations (2022), In peacemaking, the UN intervenes in a conflict and facilitates negotiations to end it with or without the assistance of regional actors or certain member states.
In resolving conflicts, the UN uses peace missions in troubled areas to provide security to the citizens and facilitate the disarming, demobilisation and reintegration of ex-combatants. Security Council resolutions authorise peacekeeping missions and must be neutral, act with consent from the parties in the conflict, and only use force where necessary. According to United Nations (2023), In addition to peacekeeping, the UN uses sa
