Development of Life Skills ($1)
Introduction
Children need to develop life skills at an early age since it is a life-long process. Basic, or survival life skills for young children may include: toileting, brushing teeth, dressing, feeding, washing hands, tying shoe laces, imagination, exploration, observation and following simple instructions.
Life skills
Training children on certain, aspects of life, for example toilet training, holding a spoon to feed and dressing up.
Providing a variety of opportunities for children to experiment and learn through trial and error.
Encouraging children to face failure and success in a positive way, and. avoiding or managing criticism,
Allowing children to explore without restrictions in order for them to learn and avoid dangerous sports or activities.
Providing guidance and counseling to children to be able to make informed choices and to avoid getting into trouble.
Reinforcing children's positive attempts at given tasks and appraising their abilities, either verbally or by use of incentives,
Providing challenging tasks for the children to attempt in order for them to reason and find ways and solutions to deal with them.
Appreciating a child’s efforts without: setting standards against others, in order to take note of individual differences and for the child to feel appreciated and accepted.
Allowing room for interpersonal interactions so that: children can acquire skills from others and establish interpersonal relationships.
